Perimeter Intrusion, Detection and Assessment System (PIDAS) at the Y-12 Complex in Oak Ridge, TN

The perimeter intrusion, detection and assessment system (PIDAS) project is a key component of the broader effort to reduce the high-security footprint of the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. It is part of the Security Infrastructure Revitalization Program (SIRP), aimed at modernizing and enhancing site security. National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia awarded the contract to CVE in November 2021. The PIDAS, originally deployed at Y-12 in 1988, has been comprehensively upgraded as part of this initiative. According to the National Nuclear Security Administration, the revitalization effort integrates advanced technologies to enhance the effectiveness and resilience of Y-12’s existing perimeter security systems. SIRP integrates modern security technologies and includes infrastructure improvements, such as key facility upgrades, enhancing the overall operational protection. SIRP also interfaces with other site upgrades, including the $160 million West End Protected Area Reduction Project, which aims to improve the security posture of Y-12, while reducing future cleanup costs by simplifying access to large legacy production buildings that no longer require heightened security protection. As of July 2025, CVE has successfully completed the SIRP project, including all testing and system integration, marking a major milestone in advancing the overall security modernization effort at Y-12. Multiple project tasks were completed ahead of schedule, with all work executed safely
