Perimeter Intrusion, Detection and Assessment System (PIDAS) at the Y-12 Complex in Oak Ridge, TN
The perimeter intrusion, detection and assessment system (PIDAS) project is part of an overall plan to shrink the high-security footprint of Y-12. It is part of a Security Infrastructure Revitalization Program (SIRP) at the Y-12 complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia awarded the contract to CVE in November 2021. Since then, CVE has completed many project milestones - some of them ahead of schedule and all of them safely.
The PIDAS was first installed at Y-12 in 1988. According to the National Nuclear Security Administration, the revitalization program incorporates modern technologies to enhance the already robust security system at Y-12. SIRP also includes security upgrades for key facilities and a new personnel and vehicle entry control facility that will better protect personnel and improve the efficiency. SIRP also interfaces with other site upgrades, including the $160 million West End Protected Area Reduction Project, which aims to improve the security posture of Y-12 while reducing future cleanup costs by providing easier access to large legacy production buildings that no longer require heightened security protection.
CVE expects to complete the PIDAS project (all testing and integration done) in 2025.
